A forgotten star is a star we’ve never seen. The first time we see it, a part of our brain lights up. It’s exciting, but we don’t know what to make of it.
In Star Trek: The Next Generation, the Enterprise crew uses a device called an “X-ray sensor” to find new worlds and new types of life. It scans the entire horizon and not only detects new stars, but also detects the patterns of the light we see from those stars. The X-ray sensor then sends its data to the ship’s computer. The computer scans the surrounding area and uses the collected data to draw a picture of the stars in the area.
Now, our little star is a little different. It’s a point light, not a star, but it’s still a star. Its just a point, not a star, but its still a star. Its bright, and it’s moving. That makes it easier to spot because the star is right where the light is. But it’s so much brighter than the rest of the stars in the galaxy, that it can’t be a real star.
